Philosopy

My perspective on teaching consists being compassionate and encouraging, offering meaningful questions on regular basis, and straight towards the problem but with enough patience. As a private violin teacher, I focus particularly on the right balance between musicality and technical skills. My major goal is to enhance the intonation, rhythm, tone quality in students’ playing, meanwhile to help them achieve better musicality in an appropriate interpretation at certain genre of music. I like to provide knowledge on theoretical and historical background of the music. I take studies and etudes as a way to build their capacity towards playing more technically demanding repertoires. I believe in investing time on the basic techniques. Transformative learning among students happens when their inappropriate postures and movements have been corrected. I believe that great improvement of performances starts with improved technical skills.

And in order to establish solid techniques and build up their repertoire, I also emphasize efficient practicing method in their daily practice. I believe a good method of practicing will lead to a more enjoyable and motivated learning experience. And it helps students to develop efficient problem solving skills and thoughtfulness in music playing. I always encourage students to bring questions to their lessons so that students are trained to have critical thinking in their learning experience. I also like to generate questions in my teaching, so the students are encouraged to express their opinions on the repertoire. Assigning students with score study and recording listening is also a key factor of building stronger players in all levels (solo, chamber, and orchestra).  Education on theoretical and historical level is always involved in my teaching. I believe that a well-balanced music education is the key for cultivating thoughtful players.
